Changes to One Time Payments for Hourly Employees
As of today, July 9, hourly employees must be compensated for additional work through reported hours rather than one-time payments.
Beginning today, July 9, 2026, one-time payments may no longer be used to compensate hourly employees for additional work performed. This change applies to all hourly employee groups, including student employees, temporary employees, and regular staff.
Hourly employees may continue to perform additional work, receive additional compensation, and earn overtime when applicable. However, compensation for that work must be tied to hours worked and submitted through the university's established timekeeping process within Workday.
This change only affects the use of one-time payments for additional work performed. One-time payments may still be used for awards, recognition payments, and administrative corrections or adjustments.
The change supports compliance with federal wage and hour requirements, employee benefits reporting obligations, student employment regulations, and Internal Audit expectations related to time and pay reporting.
