Bioengineering Seeks Paid Post-Menopausal Women

Biomedical Engineering is working to identify the effects of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) on falls risk in post-menopausal women.

This study ultimately aims to determine if the decrease in estrogen in postmenopausal women results in lower postural stability and an increased risk of falling. Testing will use a “NeuroCom Equitest”  balance assessment device. The Equitest is a commonly used balance testing device found in typical balance assessment clinics; it is such a standardized test, it has a medical insurance number when a physician orders the test.

Equitest output data will be analyzed using Multiscale Entropy Analysis (MEA) which allows the characterization of the signals mathematical ‘predictability’ and reveals subtle changes in physiological dynamics.

Subjects who complete the 45-minute protocol will receive a $20 gift card for their participation.
