Faculty Seed Grants for improving student writing

Faculty Seed Grants can help faculty use writing in strategic ways to help students achieve learning outcomes in any course.

Faculty Seed Grants are open to all full-time faculty in any discipline, both in and out of the tenure stream, and require the endorsement of the faculty member’s department chair. Awards will be made on a competitive basis.

Funding will be awarded in two categories: Level I research grants in the amount of $1,500 will be awarded for faculty to travel to conferences, purchase materials, or otherwise support research related to the teaching of writing. Level II teaching grants of  $5,000 will be available for faculty who design writing-intensive modifications to existing courses and implement them during the following academic year.

Awardees of Level I research grants will be required to document how the funds were used, providing receipts and a narrative description of outcomes achieved by the grant (e.g. their research findings or impact on teaching or scholarship).

Awardees of Level II teaching grants will be required to meet in a seminar-style series of workshops with Dr. Angela Green throughout the spring semester. Grantees will meet as a group to plan their writing-enriched courses and improve writing pedagogy and will be expected to implement the course during the following academic year or as soon as scheduling will allow. Awardees will also be required to report on the grant’s impact on their teaching.

For either grant type, please download and complete the application and send it via interoffice to Angela Green, Department of Writing and Rhetoric, by May 31, 2019.
