Dr. Jaime Hernandez-Garcia, visiting Fulbright scholar from Colombia, 'Informal Settlements in Colombia' April 17th, 1 pm, SMBHC Great Room
***Please note new date: Wednesday, April 17th, 1 pm, SMBHC Great Room (due to inclimate weather)****Professor Hernández-Garcia is a Colombian Architect, with Masters and PhD in Architecture and Planning from the UK. He is Professor at the School of Architecture and Design in the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota. At the moment he is a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the Latinx and Latin American Studies Program in the University of Missouri Kansas City. He has widely published in English and Spanish around informal settlements/housing, open/public space, environment/sustainability & community participation. His current research aims to explore the impacts of the Colombian peace process (signed in 2016 and under implementation now) in urban areas, and specifically low-income and often self-built settlements (informal settlements or barrios populares). In these neighbourhoods, where marginalization and insecurity are significant challenges, the peace process is bound to affect specific spaces, processes, sectors and groups within the community and the urban and public space.
