Disaster Resilience Research Networking Event

Registration is still OPEN! UM researchers/scholars from ALL disciplines are invited to a Disaster Resilience Research Networking Event.

University of Mississippi researchers and scholars from all disciplines are invited to participate in a Disaster Resilience Research Networking Event to be held 1pm - 3pm on February 28th in Student Union Rooms 321 and 326.

The primary purpose of this event is to help UM scholars connect, collaborate, and ultimately, compete for seed grants and extramural funding to advance knowledge and solutions to prevent or cope with disasters.

The format of the 2-hour event will be as follows:

  1. A resource overview of select UM resources and external funding opportunities to support collaborative research in disaster resilience (broadly defined)
  2. 3-minute pitches on disaster-related interests, experience, and expertise
  3. A networking session (with refreshments)

A quick Google search to define “disaster” reveals so many definitions and forms that simply providing an illustrative list can be counterproductive here. For purposes of this networking event, we encourage you to think very broadly about how your research expertise can contribute to the development of knowledge, resources, technologies, and policies to prevent, mitigate, or recover from any kind of disaster, and increase resilience and sustainability of communities.

Organized by the Disaster Resilience Constellation (DRC) and ORSP Division Research Development (RD), this event is open to all UM faculty and researchers (and those who support them).

To attend, please sign up. Registration closes February 25.  For questions about this event, please contact Kendra Sampey (kendra@olemiss.edu, x3207).
