Fulbright Scholar lecture, Monday, March 2nd, Noon

John Greaney, a Fulbright scholar at University of Pennsylvania, will lecture at the SMB Honors College, Monday, noon, Great Room.

John Greaney is a Fulbright-NUI Postdoctoral scholar at University of Pennsylvania. His monograph - The Distance of Irish Modernism - is forthcoming with Bloomsbury, and his work has featured in Textual Practice and Irish Studies Review.

On Monday 2 March 2020 he will give a talk titles: “Irish Modernism: Memory, Narrative, Representation” 12-12:50 in the SMBHC Great Room.

This talk interrogates the aporia through which the Irish modernist novel becomes both a mode of world literature and a breeding ground for phenomenological presence. In turn, it argues that Irish modernist fictions are engaged with, but different to, the cultural memories they supposedly transmit, thus raising an ethics of reading at the intersections of Irish studies, memory studies and modernist studies.
