JOUR 345 Digital Diversity (Great Elective!)
JOUR 345, Summer I, is about media diversity. Elective meets diversity requirement for majors, non-majors welcome. 100% online class.
We study the roles, impacts, and portrayals of diverse groups and individuals – often referred to as minorities – in mass media. Special attention is given to working class Americans, African Americans, Native Americans, Caucasians, Hispanics, LGBTQ+, the elderly, wealth disparity and the differently-abled. The course is inter-disciplinary. Perspectives from the humanities are given attention, as well as theories about communication. We also review how minorities have been treated in mass media content and in workplaces. Contact professor Mark Dolan for more information at email@example.com.
