Tulsa's Black Wall Street with Clifton Taulbert

Join the McLean Institute for a conversation about Tulsa's Black Wall Street with award-winning author Clifton Taulbert.


The McLean Institute for Public Service and Community Engagement, Mississippi Small Business Development Center, and Mississippi Development Authority will host a conversation about Tulsa's Black Wall Street from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14 over Zoom to discuss the history of Black Wall Street in Tulsa, OK. Clifton Taulbert is the first African-American to win the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters Award for Non-Fiction.

Taubert has written several books, including The Last Train North, When We Were Colored, and Who Owns the Icehouse. Taulbert’s books illustrate the power of incorporating community engagement into education and workforce development. The Catalyzing Entrepreneurship and Economic Development program at the McLean Institute uses Taulbert’s book Who Owns the Ice House as a framework to teach entrepreneurial lessons and foster an entrepreneurial mentality.
