Study Abroad in Ghana, West Africa.

Join Dr. Mohammed Bashir Salau in Exploring Asante History in Ghana.

Focusing on Asante history and culture, this University of Mississippi faculty led study abroad course will involve cultural activities and excursions to historic sites located in urban and rural areas in Ghana. Examples of such sites include the Okomfo Anokye Sword Site, the Elmina Castle, the Yaa Asantewaa Museum, the Bonwire kente weaving center, and the Accra Market. In addition to cultural activities and excursions, the course will involve listening to lectures delivered by local academics, practitioners at local organizations, and community members. The lectures will partly address issues of ethnicity, colonialism, nationalism, and African diaspora history. Also, they may be delivered in a traditional classroom setting or while on-site during a site visit or excursion.

Students will earn 3 credits of Hst 496 for this 2-week program.
