Benjamin DuPriest to speak at Music Colloquium Fri 4:00

How do we listen to the blues, and what do we hear in the music that tells us that it is the collective cultural heritage of this region?

Dr. Benjamin DuPriest asks: How do we listen to the blues? What is our aural approach to understanding the music? And what is it that we hear in the music itself that communicates the "cultural heritage" of this region?

Join us for a fascinating presentation and conversation based on Dr. DuPriest's research with listeners, musicians, fans, and the culture brokers of our region's blues music, and consider the ways we construct and celebrate cultural heritage out of musical tradition.

DuPriest's work is grounded in a critical understanding of the aural and archival legacies of folklore and blues revivalism, and is based on ethnographic experiences at blues festivals and events.
