UM Memo-Important

RebAlert Test Scheduled for January the 26th, at 5:15pm

On Wednesday, January the 26th, at 5:15 PM, there will be a test of the RebAlert text messaging system.

On Wednesday, January the 26th, at 5:15 PM, there will be a test of the RebAlert text messaging system. This system is one of the methods used to notify you in campus emergency and alert situations.

Ordinarily, the University tests the RebAlert text messaging system during the first weeks of each fall and spring term to ensure that it is working properly.  If there is impending bad weather that day, the RebAlert test message will not be sent.

Emergency text messages are sent to all current employees and enrolled students who have a valid cell phone number on record. Parents with Ole Miss WebIDs who have signed up to receive these messages and have a valid cell phone number on record will also be included.  Please check your cell phone number in myOleMiss and make any necessary adjustments by 10 PM on Tuesday, January the 25th, so that the changes can take effect in time for Wednesday’s test.

To receive RebAlert messages, you can sign up or modify your information within myOleMiss by following the instructions below:

Employees

Employees will find these options in myOleMiss by using the Search bar to locate and select “Address & Communication Preferences.”  Employees can opt in by selecting “Addresses” and updating information under “Address Details” > “Save Changes.”

Students

Students will find these options in myOleMiss by using the Search bar to locate and select “Contact Information.”

Non-Emergency Text Messages

Within myOleMiss, you also have the option to opt-in to receive non-emergency text messages. Examples include notices from advisors and instructors and alerts about technology outages. Employees can opt in to receive optional messages by selecting and updating the Communication Preferences tab from “Address and Communication Preferences.”

Students can opt in by going to “Contact Information” and selecting yes to “The University can contact me here” option when updating their cell phone number.

RE-ENABLING REBALERTS

If your cellular number has blocked RebAlert messages, employees and students will see the following message in myOleMiss under Address & Communication Preferences (for Employees) or Contact Information (for Students): “Records indicate that you will not receive REBALERT text messages from the University. Re-enable REBALERTS to receive future emergency text messages.”  To receive future emergency RebAlert text messages, re-enable RebAlerts by visiting https://common.olemiss.edu/docs/rebtextme.html and follow the instructions.
