Basic Camp is not Basic Training. Basic Camp is a program designed to provide you with the training you would have experienced during the first two years of ROTC. You will need to go to Basic Camp if the following is true:

  • If you have between 2 and 2 1/2 years as a full-time student remaining in your college career, with no prior military service
  • If you are starting a Graduate program and have no prior military service

ROTC Basic Camp is a 32-day training and leader development program at Fort Knox, Kentucky that happens over the summer. It is a prerequisite for the Army ROTC two-year program for anyone without prior military service who hasn't participated in ROTC for the first two years. By completing the Basic Camp, students earn credit for the first two years of Army ROTC. This enables them to enter directly into the ROTC Advanced Course and earn a commission as an officer in the Army, Army Reserve, or Army National Guard upon completing their degree.

There is no military commitment to attend Basic Camp. Upon completion of Basic Camp, you will make the decision if you would like to continue in ROTC.

Requirements

  • Two full academic years of undergraduate or graduate coursework remain to complete a degree.
  • Meet the Army height and weight standards.
  • Be medically qualified.
  • Pass physical fitness requirements.

There are typically three training start dates throughout the summer.
