Distinguished University Professor Emeritus of English and Judaic & Near Eastern Studies at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst

 

"The Stages of Memory: Reflections on Memorial Art, Loss, and the Spaces Between," traces an 'arc of memorial vernacular' from the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial to Germany's 'counter-memorials' to the Holocaust, from Berlin's Denkmal for the Murdered Jews of Europe to the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama.
