IDEAS (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity ---> Advancing Through Scholarship) Forum of the Semester
Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 4 PM CST
in the
Barnard Observatory Tupelo Room
This forum will feature Behind the Big House author, Dr. Jodi Skipper, and Executive Director of the Emmett Till Interpretive Center, Patrick Weems. They will share their experiences interpreting Black pasts in Mississippi’s present. Join our speakers as they think through: Who determines which pasts are remembered; What does it mean to publicly commemorate racially charged experiences and events; How a fractured collective memory impacts who does this work; What skillset it takes; and Why this work continues to matter?
