On Wednesday, Aug. 30 at 5:15 p.m. there will be a test of the RebAlert emergency messaging system.
On Wednesday, Aug. 30 at 5:15 p.m., there will be a test of the RebAlert emergency messaging system. This system is the primary method used to notify the campus community of emergencies and alert situations.
The University typically tests the RebAlert messaging system during the first weeks of each fall and spring term to ensure that it is working properly. However, if there is impending bad weather that day, the test RebAlert message will not be sent.
Emergency messages are sent to all current employees and enrolled students who have a valid cell phone number on record within myOleMiss. Parents with Ole Miss WebIDs who have signed up to receive these messages and have a valid cell phone number on record will also be included. Please check your cell phone number in myOleMiss and make any necessary adjustments by 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29, so that the changes can take effect in time for Wednesday’s test.
To confirm or update your contact information within myOleMiss follow the instructions below:
- Employees - Employees can log into myOleMiss and use the Search bar to locate and select “Address & Communication Preferences.” From here you can update any needed information and then click “Save Changes.”
- Students - Students will find these options in myOleMiss by using the Search bar to locate and select “Contact Information.”
RE-ENABLING REBALERTS
If you have received RebAlerts in the past but have since disabled RebAlerts via text/sms, then text the word “START” to 77295 to re-enable these text alerts. However, please note that if the message block was put in place by your cellular carrier, you may have to contact them directly to re-enable RebAlert.
If that doesn’t work, check for the following message in myOleMiss under Address & Communication Preferences (for Employees) or Contact Information (for Students): “Records indicate that you will not receive REBALERT text messages from the University. Re-enable REBALERTS to receive future emergency text messages.” To receive future emergency RebAlert text messages, re-enable RebAlerts by visiting https://common.olemiss.edu/docs/rebtextme.html and follow the instructions.

RAVE GUARDIAN
All Ole Miss students and employees are highly encouraged to download the Rave Guardian mobile application. Users who have downloaded the Rave Guardian campus safety mobile application will also receive a “push notification” alert on their smartphone through the application when a RebAlert is sent (this is in addition to the typical text and email notification).
