Together, they possess nearly 50 years of experience in the Career Services Industry . The class focuses on the following:
Course Purpose
The purpose of this course is to prepare students for life after college by teaching effective career correspondence (resume, cover letter, personal statement, curriculum vitae) writing, job searching, graduate school exploration, and professional skills.
Course Objectives
1. To learn from each other and openly share ideas about life and the world of work through discussion and activities To use written, personal, and electronic resources to gain a better understanding of the world of work via online discussion boards
2. To introduce graduate school options, the admissions process, and acceptance into a school of choice
3. To learn how to conduct an effective job search—how to find a job, complete a resume, write a cover letter, and prepare for an interview
4. To set short and long term goals/alternatives for career and life planning
5. To improve communication skills and life skills to promote future successes after college
6. To survey potential stumbling blocks encountered after leaving college
The class begins on Jan. 2 and ends on Jan 12. There is no text requirement. We utilize PowerPoints, articles, videos, and discussion posts to facilitate the class. We are also available for students through Zoom or in-person appointments.
